The Pentateuch: New Insights into Its Formation and Elevation to Torah

Programme

This session presents new approaches and models for the formation of the Pentateuch and its elevation to “Torah” by various specialists of this literature. In particular, it addresses topics such as the relation between the Pentateuch and Jewish pseudepigraphic literature of the Second Temple period; the role of Gerizim and other cult places in the creation of the Pentateuch; the evidence for “Chronistic” edition within the Pentateuch; as well as the way in which cohabitation between competing authoritative figures such as Moses and Abraham was achieved.
